2016 Home Trends

When it comes to your home, we believe it should be your sanctuary away from all the craziness of the outside world. There are several ways you can help make your home more comfortable for you and your family. As your local HVAC company, we obviously know the importance of indoor air quality on your health and comfort. While we can help with that aspect, there are other things you can consider in this New Year to take advantage of some of the new 2016 home trends.

Multifunctional Cabinets and Furnishings

More and more, especially in smaller homes where storage space is limited, multifunctional furnishings and cabinets are a must. Adding pull-out drawers and shelves inside the kitchen cabinets can greatly reduce clutter and make effective use of limited storage. We have also seen more people installing islands with fold-out and pull-out options that convert the island into a functional dining table. Utilizing multifunctional furnishings helps you reduce clutter as you can better store essentials instead of having things laying out in the open. This makes living spaces look more open, which can help you relax and reduce stress.

Calming Colors

The 2016 Pantone colors are Rose Quartz and Serenity. These colors in the home offset each other very well and provide contrast. Plus, they are in a color palette that evokes a feeling of calm and tranquility. As a result, we anticipate seeing more of these colors being incorporated into new home builds, redesigns and remodels over the next year, not to mention in things such as furnishings, window covers and linens.

Automation Options

While 10 years ago it was hard not to find new home builds without wiring for home theater surround sound, today we commonly see home automation becoming standard issue. This is mostly due to the fact that most everyone has high-speed internet and Wi-Fi capabilities in their home. As a result we are seeing home comfort systems that run via the internet. This includes everything from thermostats to lighting and security systems. When it comes to automation for your HVAC system, you can see savings on your energy bill as many of the thermostats, such as the Nest and EcoBee, automatically adjust to operate efficiently while maintaining your ideal comfort levels. Lighting systems, too, can help you save as well as add comfort. With some lighting systems, such as Phillips Hue, you can change the color of lighting to suit your mood and create a more comfortable home environment.

Master Bath Upgrades

We have seen for a long while homeowners investing in kitchen remodels. In fact, updating kitchens is one of the top two things you can do to increase the value of your home. The second thing you can do is update the master bathroom. More and more homeowners are transforming their baths from the simple, builder-installed tub and shower combo into little spa havens. The big trend now is to remove the tub and simply convert it into a walk-in shower. As a result, more and more bath areas are seamlessly designed from the shower to the rest of the bathroom using the same tiles and stone.  This creates a dramatic effect in the bath area and makes it look larger and more spa-like. Not to mention, making it a lot easier to get in and out of the shower!
