What is a Ductless Mini Split System?

mini ductless splitA ductless mini split is a heating and/or cooling unit that doesn’t require any ductwork. Refrigeration lines run from a small outside condensing unit through a small hole (~3″) in the wall to a non-intrusive, quiet, indoor air handling unit that can be mounted on the floor, wall or to a ceiling-mounted diffuser. The main point is that by eliminating the need for ductwork, the ductless mini split can be installed with ease, saving you money and making it a reality to expand the comfort in your home, no matter what challenges each space presents!

Whether you live in a new home or an older home without ductwork or you desire a more complete year- round comfort control over a specific room or area of your home, ductless mini split systems are a great solution at a very affordable cost.

What are the Benefits of a Ductless Mini Split?

Comfort for a single zone or multiple zones. Heating and cooling or just cooling. Whatever you desire, any space you want and any way you want to condition it, ductless mini splits offer customizable solutions that are energy efficient, quiet and extremely comfortable. In addition, today’s models are so compact that you will hardly notice they are there!

  • No ductwork necessary: limitless options to condition any type of space in your home
  • Easy installation: quick, affordable and non-intrusive to your home; most systems only require a three-inch diameter hole in the wall to connect the outdoor unit (condenser) to the indoor air- handler unit.
  • Energy efficiency: ductless mini splits have come a long way over the years and are extremely energy efficient (up to 30.5 SEER). Further, by eliminating the need for ductwork you avoid energy losses common to forced air ducted systems (up to 30% in some cases)
  • Inverter technology: Ultra-quiet inverter technology operates at variable speeds which results in even temperature control, greater energy efficiency and powerful dehumidification. It’s like a car on cruise control, modulating automatically to balance the energy the system uses with the comfort needed to condition the space
  • Single zone: ductless air conditioners and heat pumps can be installed so that one indoor unit corresponds to one outdoor unit
  • Multi zone: one outdoor unit can power up to nine indoor units, each separately controlled by a wireless remote, offering you the ability to better configure and control your comfort zones. You can also choose to add indoor units (depending on the maximum number of connectable units) to your outdoor compressor after you’ve installed just two indoor units. This allows for more streamlined expansion or renovation of your home as time and budget allow.
  • Individual zone control: each indoor air handling unit comes with its own thermostat regardless of how many zones there are so that you get individual comfort control for each zone, and can turn on/off zones when not occupied to save energy and money.

Now’s the time to expand the comfort of your home, whether you are looking to add cooling to that one room in your home that is always warm, building an addition to your home and want an affordable, efficient way to condition the space, and/or you are looking to get rid of those terrible electric baseboards.  Whatever your need, Major’s Home Comfort Technicians will craft a solution that meets or exceeds your expectations and improves your quality of life!
