Home Comfort Technologies of 2015

At Major, we are always on the lookout for new trends when it comes to home comfort technologies and things that that you can implement in your home. This past year, more and more home comfort technologies emerged that rely on the Internet of Things (IoT) and are part of the rapid home automation technology trend. While you thought your Wi-Fi was exclusively the domain of movie streaming and TV show binging, it is now used in the home for everything from controlling your thermostats to lighting and security systems and much more. We put together a list of our favorite new home technologies for 2015 just in time for your holiday shopping.

Ecovent

Ecovent’s smart sensors and vents allow you to set the desired temperature for any room independently from other rooms, which can help your HVAC system run more efficiently this winter while keeping your rooms cozy and comfortable. Although it’s not yet available to purchase, you can reserve a system through Ecovent’s website. Ecovent is compatible with The Nest and other smart thermostat systems and allows you to control the system through your smartphone.

Sengled Snap

Although it is shaped like a light bulb and plugs into your overhead light bulb sockets, the Sengled Snap is much more. While the Sengled Snap is a light, it is also a motion sensor, a wireless camera, a microphone and facial recognition detector all in one device. It helps provide added piece of mind and security monitoring when you are not home. In fact, you can view video footage of your home on your mobile device when you are away.

H20 Smart Pot

If you struggle with keeping your houseplants watered, then this could very well be their savior…and yours. The H20 Smart Pot uses a water bottle, Bluetooth and a database of more than 7,000 plant species to ensure your plant gets just the right amount of water, at the right time. All you have to do is manage to fill the water bottle every now and then.

Netatmo Welcome

Facial recognition technology is not just limited to government agencies. Netatmo Welcome is a smart-home security camera that uses facial recognition technology that can alert you when members of your family come home. If an unknown face should come into your home, it will alert you. The integrated smartphone app will provide you a timeline of everyone’s comings and goings as well as allow you to view a livestream at any time. Video is recorded on an SD card so you do not need to pay for an additional subscription service.
